As is the case with most hospitals in Ontario, physicians who practice at the Hôpital Général de Hawkesbury & District General Hospital are required to apply for and be granted privileges by the Hospital Board of Directors.

Admitting privileges allow physicians to admit patients to the Hospital and to treat them while they are hospitalized.

Community ProfileOur area is…unique. At its core is the Town of Hawkesbury, the only completely bilingual Ontario town, where 90% of the population speaks both official languages. Surrounding Hawkesbury, are the picturesque municipalities of L'Orignal, Vankleek Hill, the Township of Champlain and the Village of St-Eugène.

Our hospital is located in the Town of Hawkesbury, an hour's drive from Montreal, Ottawa, the legendary resorts of the Laurentians and the American border. The region is attractive to individuals seeking a rural lifestyle with ready access to a myriad of recreational and cultural amenities.

From rivers to mountains and lakes, we appeal to outdoor enthusiasts. Our charming towns and villages located close to the Ottawa River provide a water playground for swimming, water skiing, sailing, boating and fishing. We are also very proud of our 2 attractive and challenging 18-hole golf courses, 8 curling ice-sheets, soaring club and cycling trail. The local terrain provides excellent trails for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Some of the finest downhill skiing is available within an hour's drive. Family-centered activities abound: a provincially renowned hockey team, figure skating and minor hockey, summer hockey school, swimming club and community activities. All this is done with our towns and villages' friendly and welcoming spirit.

You will quickly feel at home in our area. The quality of life is enhanced by the cultural and entertainment opportunities of major art centers in Ottawa and Montreal, as well as fantastic shopping just a short drive away.

Excellent educational facilities are available at many levels. There are several French catholic primary schools, one French public primary school, two French high schools, one public and one catholic. There are also one English public high school, one English primary public school, one bilingual primary school and a Francophone satellite college campus. Universities are located at close proximity to the area.
Continuous investment in the revitalization and embellishment of our major towns - our commercial core with over 200 stores and services - attracts new businesses and is another step in our becoming the major commercial center of activity between Montreal and Ottawa.

With their gracious neighbourhoods, affordable housing, quality educational opportunities and recreational activities, our towns and villages offer much to experience and enjoy.
