Accreditation is a very effective and recognized tool used by health organizations to evaluate their performance in comparison to defined national health care standards. The Accreditation award is granted by Accreditation Canada.
The Accreditation process is a voluntary three year continuous quality improvement endeavor:
• Self-evaluation surveys done by frontline staff and physicians responding to identified specific quality criteria within a defined program. i.e. Family Birthing or Emergency
• a review and development of quality action plans in response to identified quality criteria (based on the outcomes identified in the quality performance road map)
• the inputting of actions taken into the Accreditation portal – for review and assessment by Accreditation Canada
• the measurement and reporting of identified national indicators to Accreditation Canada
• an organizational self assessment survey on patient safety
• a governance self assessment
• staff self assessment survey on work life conditions
• a client focus assessment
• a visit by a team of trained Accreditation health professionals who work at other healthcare centers
• a preliminary report and 6 months later a final report based on any additional improvements made
The last visit from Accreditation Canada was November 2008, when our hospital was granted the award of Accreditation.
Our commitment to the accreditation process attests to our dedication in offering quality & patient safety through the hospital to our community.
